Anonymisation means that personal data is changed in such a way that a personal reference can no longer be established - neither directly nor indirectly. As soon as data is completely anonymised, their processing is no longer covered by the GDPR.
In the Website Analytics anonymisation plays an important role, e.g. by shortening IP addresses or removing identifiable features. Many tracking tools offer corresponding functions in order to work in compliance with data protection regulations.
Important: Anonymisation should not be confused with pseudonymisation - an indirect personal reference is still possible.
