With Trackboxx, tracking your active paid ad campaigns is effortless. This is achieved through the integrated UTM tracking feature.
With UTM tracking, clicks that have taken place via a Google Ads campaign, for example, can be precisely assigned and displayed in the "UTM Source" module.
When properly configured, it is possible to see the campaign name, ad group, and even the clicked keyword. However, it is essential to activate the UTM feature within your Ads accounts.
In this article, we want to explain how to implement this for Google Ads and Meta (Facebook) Ads.
Google Ads UTM Tracking
In this section, we will explain how to activate UTM tracking for your Google Ads campaign.
1. Go to your Google Ads account and open the corresponding campaign:

2. now click on the "Settings" tab at campaign level

3. now scroll all the way down, open the "further settings" and go to the URL options of the campaign.

4. Define UTM parameters.
In the field for the tracking template, you can now define your values. To assist you, you can use our UTM Builder, which can be found in your dashboard under Settings (gear icon).
Regarding the creation of the UTM parameters, please also read our corresponding article on the topic "UTM Tracking„
In our example, we have now inserted the following template:
{lpurl}?utm_source=Google+Ads&utm_medium=performance-max-campaign&utm_term={keyword}
As source - we would now see "Google Ads"
As the medium, we would see "Performance-max-campaign."
And as a final value, we would even see the "clicked" keyword.
IMPORTANT! The keyword term no longer works with the new "Performance Max campaigns" from Google, as Smart Bidding is used here and you have to enter your keyword
In the following graphic, you can see how this would appear in Trackboxx, for example:

Meta / Facebook Ads UTM Tracking
In this section, we will explain how to activate UTM tracking for your Meta/Facebook Ads campaign.
1. Navigate to your Facebook Ads Manager. Here, you'll find a list of your campaigns. Click on the campaign for which you want to activate UTM parameters.
2. Select the corresponding ad or create a new ad.
In the settings you will also find the item "Destination > Website".
Here we can determine the final target URL and even create a correct URL directly via Facebook using the "Create URL parameter" option

You can, of course, decide on the basic assignment yourself. Facebook also directly offers various dynamic parameters to choose from.
In our example, the final URL is:
https://trackboxx.com/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Banner&utm_campaign=google-analytics-alternativeCode language: JavaScript (javascript)
